The unforgiving minute

It was a little after 4am when I figured out that the faint beeping every few minutes from somewhere in the house was my cell phone telling me I had a text message.

Barack has chosen Senator

[Scroll down . . . ]

Joe Biden to be our VP nominee.

Apparently my phone began beeping at a couple minutes after two, west coast time, but--in a bit of inadvertent political symbolism that's pretty hard to ignore--I slept through it.

Dear Senator Obama: For future reference, picking, say, Kathleen Sebelius would be a 2am message. Announcing that it's Joe Biden could easily have waited until breakfast.

Minute's up.
