Eight years ago today on p3: Senate Republicans try to decide how bad they really feel about lynching

And it wasn't anything that would make you proud of the World's Greatest Deliberative BodyTM.

How embarrassing was it, for those of us who don't wish Jim Crow was still in place?

Well, Oregon's junior senator at the time, Gordon Smith, was one of the very last senators to cosponsor – after the damned bill was already passed, mind you – the resolution saying that the Senate should have stepped up about a hundred years sooner to say that, you know, lynching is bad.

Oregon is so fortunate to have dumped Smith for Jeff Merkley. On so many levels.
