Saturday morning tunes: Happy birthday to the roller coaster

The first roller coaster went online, so to speak, at Coney Island on June 16, 1884. It cost a nickel.

Here's a classic written by Chuck Barris and recorded by Freddy “Boom Boom” Cannon in 1962.

I love the little 30-second montage at the beginning of this clip. Notice Tony Orlando's name on one of the posters (below Fankie Avalon's)? Tony's featured in the trailers for the latest Adam Sandler bomb “That's My Boy,” which opened this weekend. The man is immortal.

Also “Palisades Park” was the song they played as Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band made their stage entrance on the “Tunnel of Love” tour. Just thought I'd mention that.
