The LO/KPOJ "Lost Limerick Challenge"

Astute listeners may have noticed a pronounced lack of TJ on this morning's Carl + Christine show on AM620KPOJ. According to my briefing, this was because the Torrid One missed an early morning bus connection. Live by TriMet, die by Trimet.

And you probably thought they sent a limo for him, not to mention picking all the red M&M's out of the bowl in the green room.

Anyway, for whatever reason, KPOJ's loss is once again p3's gain. For the full effect, you may find it helpful to have a friend crouch behind the radio and read this morning's limericks aloud to you, then fill in the blank with the correct word or phrase from this week's Oregon news:

"CSI" would find no clues to trail.
As a "Prison Break" plot--Epic Fail!
Medford cops would agree
It's no challenge, you see,
Catching someone who __________.

With tuition hikes causing dismay,
And the high price of textbooks today,
It may comfort dorm residents
As they watch college presidents
Take a cut in their annual _________ .

With the Coast Guard's help, now Maude and Myrtle
Will be able to clear their last hurdle
First it's SeaWorld's devotion,
Then back to the ocean,
For these formerly stranded ___________.

(The answers can be found in the Comments below, or in this week's Spanning the State at Loaded Orygun.)

Bonus limerick: From Mad Kane: "Fighting Firewalls with Kindle Blogs."

The answers:

#1: Breaks into jail.

The story: A "distraught" Medford man who'd been consuming alcohol and marijuana wanted help from the local police, but couldn't get an answer at their front entrance.

They found him climbing into jail, over a fence where prisoners are brought in.

He was taken to the county's sobriety center and referred to mental health services.

#2: Pay.

The story: Nationwide, college presidents' salaries are going up, but in Oregon, salaries for the top officials at Oregon's seven public universities being dropped 4.7%.

Without the passage of 66 and 67, would they be working for tips at the student cafeteria?

A special Rose Bowl footnote: The combined salaries for Oregon's 7 university presidents is $1.8 million, which just barely exceed the top public university presidential salary, at Ohio State, $1.6 million,

#3: Sea turtles

The story: It's a win-win: Coast Guard pilots got an opportunity to practice airlifting unusual cargo, and two rare stranded sea turtles got a free C-130 airplane ride from Newport Beach to SeaWorld in San Diego.

The turtles, both in the 100 lb range and native to the Indian Ocean, will be rehabbed at SeaWorld and, with luck, released back into the ocean.

These were a delight! And I'm proud to say I got two out of three right -- not bad for a New Yorker, who's clueless about what's happening in your part of the country.

Thanks for linking to my limerick!
