Limerick #1: Measure 8
The story: "Oregonians Against Job Killing Taxes" are spending their corporate money on the PR firm Schubert Flint Public Affairs, who created homophobic TV ads for Measure 8 in California and a similar referendum in Maine. They also helped stop the 2007 Oregon tax on tobacco that would help fund children's health care.
Answer #2: Bull trout.
The story: The Bush administration never saw an Oregon fish it didn't want on a plate next to some chips. In the Klamath basin alone, they cut the endangered bull trout's range from 296 river miles to 42. But the Obama administration's EPA is actually going to enforce the 1999 Endangered Species Act to help the bull trout recover.
Answer #3: Tripled
The story: Oregon now ranks 11th in the nation in foreclosures. In 2009, we had 34,121--that's up 90% since 2008, and up 300% since 2007.
If there's a recovery, it forgot to bring the middle class along with it.

The story: The Wall Street Journal says that Measures 66 and 67 are disasters. Their proof? Even "the liberal Oregonian" editorialized against them.
