The unforgiving minute

Item from The Economist's Politics This Week newsletter:

Canada's foreign minister, Maxime Bernier, resigned after his former girlfriend, Julie Couillard, revealed that he had left secret government documents at her home. Ms Couillard had previous ties to criminal biker gangs.

In America, no one would have resigned, and the biker gangs would have been invited to the White House to watch Mernier and Couillard receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Minute's up.
