Stand Up Against Smith--By Standing Outside His Office Tomorrow

Gordon Smith, Oregon's Junior senator (because Junior knows he can always count on his vote), has staked out immoderate, conservative positions on civil rights, education, the environment, choice--you name it.

My favorite Smith position, though, will always be his four votes (so far) to prolong the Iraq occupation and keep our troops in the middle of it, after claiming (by coincidence, shortly after the congressional Republicans got their asses handed to them in the 2006 election) that Bush's Iraq policy "may even be criminal." (But then again, in the Age of Bush there's "criminal" and then there's <air quotes>criminal</air quotes>, eh, Senator?)

Time for Smith to leave DC and return to his first love--frozen vegetables.
