The unforgiving minute

Here's the thing: The 2012 presidential election is 5 years, 2 months, and 12 days from today.

We already know perfectly well that, under the present electoral system, in exactly 1 year, 2 months, and 11 days (Wednesday, November 5, 2008, the day after the next presidential election), the prospective presidential candidates for the 2012 election will be making manufactured public appearances in Iowa and New Hampshire.

So. Tell me again why giving those two states a vanity and tourism lock on, respectively, the first state caucus and first state primary is a good thing.

Minute's up.

Our Little TinPot is going to dissolve congress as obstructionist, declare Martial Law, and "postpone" 2008. Not sayin' it'll work - it is statistically impossible to contain a population this large and this diverse - nor am I sayin' it's necessarily a bad thing, for Oregon.

Oregon was a Republic, before it was a "state".
