I suppose it's at least worth noting that he finally agreed to comment on a personnel matter.
McClellan, who replaced Ari Fliescher as White House press secretary, never really showed his predecessor's zest for lying. Oh, he did it, like the trouper he is, and he even made it all his own by adding a certain Seinfeldian rhythm (although Abbot and Costello were the true inspiration) to the back-and-forth of the press gaggle. But you could always detect a certain amount of self-loathing, for being in this position, that was simply never there with Fleischer.
As SNL's Weekend Update observed, "McClellan says he'd like to spend more time lying for his family."
But he's not going home empty-handed. No, we're not going to send away the man who gave us this memorable exchange--
Q: I'm saying, why did you stand there and say he was not involved?--and so many more, without a lovely parting gift. Johnny, what have we got for Scott?
A: Again, while there is an ongoing investigation, I'm not going to be commenting on it nor is ... .
Q: Any remorse?
A: Nor is the White House, because the president wanted us to cooperate fully with the investigation, and that's what we're doing.
Well, Bill, we've got this lovely p3 bumper sticker!
Thanks Johnny! And now, who's our next contestant?
