I'm adding to the sidebar Readings this piece by John Dean tracing how Bush's psychological profile, compared to other presidents, predicts that he'll roll the big dice when he feels like his presidency is threatened--as it is now, beset by policy breakdowns, corruption scandals, military failures, and public disapproval.
If the choice in Bush's mind is between admitting his presidency has collapsed and, let's say, bombing Iran--well, don’t count on retiring on the income from your Tehran timeshare. I've blogged more about it over at PK.
