I've been writing another blog for a few weeks now, in addition to PPP. OregonLive.com (the Oregonian's online home) invited me to be their blogger on bicycling in Oregon.
Here's the latest post, on the passing of someone who made Oregon a lot better place for cyclists--and drivers--even if a lot of us no longer remember him. Take a look.
It's a bike blog, remember, so the post doesn't get into the politics of it much. But it's not hard to read between the lines and see the story as an interesting touchstone in the de-evolution of Oregon Republicans: From socially-moderate, conservation-minded politicians, concerned with improving the life of all our citizens, to pro-corporate, anti-tax, anti-education, anti-gay zealots with a starve-the-beast attitude toward the government they're a part of. And all in a little more than a generation.
But I digress.
The bike blog's been a lot of fun so far, although the shifting of mental gears--to keep bicycles with bicycles, and politics/media/culture with politics/media/culture--has been a challenge sometimes. (I've kept that clean, bright line between the two a little cleaner and brighter at some moments than at others, it seems.)
(Oregonlive.com's blogging system isn't really designed for blogging, so there are occasional glitches. If that last link doesn't work, or simply takes you to the top of the blog, scroll down to last Tuesday's post: "Cycling your way to the top.")
So check out my bike blog. I'm enjoying it; why shouldn't you?
