Saturday evening tunes: How much does it cost to buy a piece of Central Park?

Well, whatever the going rate was, that's what Yoko Ono did, and on this date in 1984 Strawberry Fields, the memorial to her slain husband, was opened.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Penny Lane" were recorded as a part of the Sgt. Pepper sessions, but both songs – nostalgic tributes to the childhood scenes of Lennon and Paul McCartney, respectively – were released as A and B sides of a single and saw their album release postponed until "Magical Mystery Tour."
