The unforgiving minute

Silly you.

You probably thought health care reform was simply about whether or not you could get access to the medical care you need without going bankrupt.

Conservatives know it's about something much more important--it's about their survival as a political movement in America.

If Obama health care reform produces a government program as successful, efficient, and popular as Social Security or Medicare, the opportunity for conservatives to "shrink government to the size that they can drown it in the bathtub" will be all but ended, at least for the next generation or two.

And that's more important than your health or your ability to stay out of bankruptcy.

Silly you.

Medicare isn't "efficient". I work in the health care field and, believe me, there is waste, fraud, and abuse up the ying-yang. Couple that with the demographic nightmare that is fast approaching us and, well, we'll have to see.
