Drinking Liberally tonight at Madison's Grill

So--where were you at 8:01pm Tuesday night, when the election was called for Obama?

A good number of you were at the DL Election Night bash at the Greek Cusina, sponsored by the folks at Tom Dwyer Automotive Service. Thanks to all who joined us--old friends and new--for a historic evening. (Pictures are gradually making their way to the Portland Drinking Liberally Facebook page.)

But, of course, we're lefties, which means it's not over until The Finest Minds Of Our Generation TM have analyzed the hell out of it.

A couple of friends have wondered aloud if the election of Obama will mean that there'll be "no need for Drinking Liberally" anymore. To those doubters, I say "Hah!"

Yes, that's right. You heard me: "Hah!"

It's true that we only have 74 days and a few hours left of the Bush kleptocracy, (and their out-of-here enabler Gordon Smith!), but that shouldn't slow things down for us a bit, in Oregon or at the national level: There are staff and cabinet choices to be rehashed. Congressional committee assignments to be debated. Policy announcements to be Monday morning quarterbacked. Political strategies to be second-guessed. Unhappy right-wing pundits to be mocked. Sarah Palin's political future to be gawked at like a 12-car rush-hour pile-up on the Terwilliger Curves.

Trust me, folks--our work is cut out for us. We'll have plenty to talk about for a long time to come.

So join the Portland DL chapter for drinks and political conversation at Madison's Grill, at SE 11th and Madison (map), tonight at 7pm. (DL meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month.)

(And remember: DL encourages everyone to drink, and vote, responsibly.)
