Drinking Liberally, 7pm tonight at Madison's Grill

Join the Portland DL chapter for our regular meeting at Madison's Grill, at 11th and Madison (map), tonight, March 6th, at 7pm.

(DL meets the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month.)

That means there's only 319 days until George Bush leaves office. You know, I can't even think of anything funny to say about that this week. Let's just hope things don't get too much worse before it's over.

Before I get any farther, here's a shout-out to the many new DLers who've joined us in the last several weeks. It's great to have you join us--don't be strangers.

The Texas and Ohio (and Rhode Island and Vermont) primaries this week have set the stage for two competing memes between now and the Pennsylvania primary on April 22nd--"the narrative versus the numbers," as Steve Benen at Crooks and Liars calls it. Should we judge the state of the Clinton/Obama duel by the story of Hillary's sweep of Ohio and Texas, or by Obama's virtually unchanged lead in delegates? We can fight this out after the first round tonight.

One last item: My friend Alan, who did triple duty as a polling place worker in Texas on Tuesday night, sent this along, hitting the Send button with his last bit of strength:

See you tonight for drinks and political conversation at Madison's. Bring your favorite Ohio/Texas primary story. (And remember: DL encourages everyone to drink, and vote, responsibly.)
