The ultimate day for playing the shell game

Fridays are traditionally when the Bush administration releases bad news, hoping it will get lost among the bright, shiny objects over the weekend before the news cycle picks it up on Monday.

Today is, of course, "Black Friday," the kick-off of the month-long process of whipping up a half-billion dollar consumer feeding-frenzy culminating in the day when Christians celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace, followed by the day when retail stores double their temp staff to handle all the purchase exchanges. (And Bill O'Reilly thinks that "happy holidays" is the proof of a "war on Christmas"?) With the distraction of cheap Play Station 3's (or whatever this year's must-have purchase is) competing for everyone's attention, this might be the day that Team Bush tries to sneak a real stink bomb under the radar.

Another major economic indicator heading south? Another reversal in recently announced Iraq policy? More dreadful poll results? A resignation? An indictment?

Watch the news carefully today.

Congratulations, Ten Bears--that's not an easy thing to do for most people, even when you're trying, even when you're only counting cash/plastic out of pocket.
