Sunday morning toons

See if you can detect the Cartoon Meme of the Week. (You'll have to look closely--it's subtle!)

First up: Here (hat tip to the Skirt) , from TAB (aka Thomas Boldt) at the Calgary Sun, is one instance.

Next: Same meme, different direction:

Odd that Oliphaunt would see the takeaway from Rummy's demise as being that the generals now feel free to "spend and waste again!" Spend on, say, armor for our troops and their vehicles? Waste on, perhaps, veteran's and survivors' benefits? Can the military leadership's worst excesses match the cost we've already paid for Halliburton's no-bid contracts and war profiteering?

Makes me wonder if we've been watching the same war.

But it's hard to miss that both cartoonists are comparing their targets to the neo-stalinist rule of Saddam--who, as Jon Stewart sympathetically noted, didn't have a very good week either.
