KATU discovers hotbed of anti-Portlandism in Portland

Over at the web site for Portland's ABC affiliate, katu.com (no link because the information's already taken down), their "Your Turn on 2" viewer poll asked the following question: "Would you support a bill that would allow tougher interrogation practices of suspected terrorists?"

And Portland--"Little Beirut," as the Bush family likes to call us--answered loud and strong:

This, my friends, is why the spit take was invented. No idea how many actual persons that 63% represents, although I believe that the site places a cookie on your computer after you vote to head off double-voting.

You're free to formulate your own explanation for this. I like to think that the people who clicked "Yes" to torture were still in thrall of ABC's "Path to 9/11" last weekend.

Unfortunately (maybe), the results of that poll are gone, and the latest poll--"Do you think the Pope’s comment last week required an apology?" is, I'm told, running about 75% in favor of "no apology."

Thanks (I think) to Shawn for bringing this to my attention.

KGW also runs polls like this. The Pope got the same reaction over there.

Hi, Jack.

Amazing. If this keeps up, will we have to change PDX's handle to "Little Peoria?"

It's not clear that all those poll votes are coming from Portland. Indeed, who knows where they're coming from?

But I'm with you, I was taken aback. You wonder why Bush is President? Read no further.
