Hah. Made you look.
Yes, Senator Smith, junior Senator from Oregon, said that, but he wasn't talking to you--unless you were one of the corporate media executives attending a luncheon last week where Smith appealed for help to push through the Republican telecommunication reform [sic] bill, including its provisions to allow internet service providers to provide two-tiered levels of service to users as a way to squeeze more revenue out of the internets.
"60 votes" refers to the number needed to get the GOP bill out of the Commerce committee and to the floor with enough votes to override the veto promised by net neutrality supporter and senior Oregon Senator Ron Wyden.
So here's what we've got: Over here is Wyden, prepared to filibuster to keep internet access the reasonably non-discriminatory medium it is today.
And over there is Smith, asking the telcos companies for help in securing their right to charge internet sites--YouTube? MySpace? your local bank? your wrong-brand email provider?--extra to enter sweetheart deals wherein their internet traffic will receive priority.
On "The Sopranos," isn't that called "protection?"
I really hope the Oregon Democrats are grooming someone to take Smith's seat in 2008. Enough really is enough.

Smith was on FoxNews the other morning talking about how the Iraq war is all great and glorious and everything. Funny thing was that it was at a time when most in his home state would still be asleep (early morning east coast time). Like he wanted to show his machismo to fellow Republicans but didn't want his constituents to know.
That's our boy: Mr. Fake-Left-Go-Right. Most of us in the state keep shaking our heads--somebody must be voting for him, but . . . ?
bn
Wyden or Smith, Democrats or Republicans. What is the difference? Talk, talk and talk: "We need...., we must....., somehow......, find way..... and etc. Yesr after year, same, many years. What is the result? One year agon in the USA were 46 million Americans without health insurance. One year later - 47 million. Idiots, they are talking about what the People want to hear.
Oregon Democrats and the media blocked my election and gave an opportunity to not convicted yet criminal Wu to get more votes.
The blood of our people in Afganistan and Iraq is on Republican, Democratic Parties and on the media.
Pavel Goberman - Write In Candidate for State Representative, 28th District (against Jeff Barker), and Candidate for US Senator in 2008 (against Smith).
