Countdown
It's been a busy time for the Bush Thousand Year Reich:
The office of the vice president declared itself exempt--for the third year running--from the requirement that all government offices annually report to the National Archives the extent to which they have used (or abused) their power to classify documents.
And the Bush Justice Department yesterday refused to tell the Senate Judiciary Committee whether it has ever considered--considered!--prosecuting American journalists for publishing leaked classified information. Given that they've cheerfully expounded theories of the legality and constitutionality of torture, extraordinary rendition, warrentless wiretapping, indefinite detention without charges, and the use of so-called "signing statements" to render the President exempt from any law Congress might pass, if he so choses, it really makes one wonder what they're planning for journalists if they're unwilling to answer any questions about their intentions, doesn't it?
And, courtesy of Alternet, the top 10 signs that the New American Police State is upon us.
The clock is striking thirteen.
