Ian Welsh has a
nice piece, cross-posted at
FDL, cataloguing the varieties of
genus Republicanus roaming North America these days.

He draws some interesting distinctions concerning how each fits into the right-wing ecosphere--a rundown of food sources and enemies, as well as what each can and can't do, both for Movement Conservatism and for GOP electoral politics.
Particularly interesting, though almost a throw-away at the end, are his
Concluding Remarks.
Check it out. (Be warned: you'll have to get past the photo at the top.)
