A friend and I have been discussing the "addiction" meme--the idea that America's relationship to foreign oil is that of an addict to their fix--ever since Bush worked it into his State of the Union address.Actually, we've been debating whether it's reached true "meme" (i.e., self-replicating mind-virus) status, or whether it was just a blip on the radar screen of presidential blather.
The New York Observer's R. J. Matson offers evidence it's the former.
