The pre-dinner ritual of the red carpet walk--without the actual red carpeting--was sort of interesting, in a B-list kind of way: Look: There's the chairman of the Federal Reserve! Look: There's Anna Devere Smith! Look! There's Ludacris! Look! There's Greta Van Susteren!
And you knew who it was, because C-SPAN helpfully provided the names at the bottom of the screen.
And then Joe Wilson and his wife made their entrance into the lobby, and C-SPAN dutifully put up the name: Valerie Plame, CIA Analyst.
