Grimm news

The blogworld has had a discussion simmering for some months now: Why are blogs by women less visible than blogs by men? Or why are there fewer of them? Or why are they less often linked to at the right moment? Or some variation or extension on that.

Shakespeare's Sister has been one of the sources of good commentary and roundups on the subject. (Here's one now, in fact.)

In part because I am, for better or worse, a fully Y chromosome-equipped blogger, I've chosen to curb any inclination to join in that discussion, opting instead to watch it unfold without taking part. "I don't have a dog in that fight," I told myself.

But that was until I picked up this morning's paper and discovered to my consternation that the blogging impulse may be, at its core, about the imperative to mark territory.

Well, it would explain a lot.

Woof.
