Letting the dumb guys take a crack at it

Here's an interesting bit of inside baseball on the current troubles at the White House, courtesy of Billmon at the Whiskey Bar.

I think it works best when read as a National Geographic story about some improbable, vaguely comical creature who survives against all apparent odds by finding and occupying exactly the right ecological niche. If "March of the Penguins" starred White House chief of staff Andy Card, in other words.

Best line in the piece:
I guess it could be argued that since the smart guys -- i.e. Bush's cracker barrel version of the Best and the Brightest -- have gotten us into so many messes, why not let the dumb guys take a crack at getting us out.

But the whole thing's worth reading, especially since these are the dumb guys who really may be running things for the next three years.
