There is a sort of religious angle to this. The cheerleaders are from Ypsilanti--the home of the Ypsilanti State Hospital. There one Milton Rokeach studied three patients. All three believed they were Jesus Christ. As a type of experiment, he made all three associate with one another. This began with each knowing that the other two were crazy. Read more in Rokeach's aptly named Three Christs of Ypsilani.
You might want to option it for a TV series. If the cheerleader thing doesn't make the Upfronts, you've got a back-up.
