New feature: Bookshelf

Scroll down the right-hand column to find the Bookshelf, where I'll be listing books worth looking at. Unlike the Readings list, where entries only stay up a couple of weeks, the Bookshelf links will remain posted for longer.

The first item on the bookshelf is Gang of Five: Leaders at the Center of the Conservative Ascendency, by Nina J. Easton (link to it from the Bookshelf). It's a history of the fraternity of leaders of the contemporary radical right: Rove, Reed, Norquist, Abramoff--and others, like Gingrich and DeLay, who have hitched their corrupt wagons to these dubious stars. Digby draws on Easton's research to offer a nice take on the lot of them--he calls them "Nixon's Babies," for reasons he'll make clear. And as a bonus: If you've ever wondered how in heaven's name a wretched movie like "Red Scorpion" could get made--well, now you'll know.

Bookshelf nominations are welcome.
